About

A beam calculator that stays out of your way

OnlineBeamCalculator.com is a free structural analysis tool for engineers, students and builders. It runs an exact finite-element beam solver entirely in your browser: no account, no upload, no server, no cost.

It supports unlimited spans, pin/roller/fixed/spring supports, internal hinges (moment releases), point loads, moments, uniform and linearly varying (trapezoidal) distributed loads, self-weight, prescribed support settlement, and full metric/imperial unit switching with granular unit pickers.

Results include reactions, shear/moment/slope/deflection diagrams with point queries, max/min values with locations, bending and average shear stress, and deflection serviceability checks (L/240, L/360, L/480). Everything can be exported as CSV or printed as a report, and models can be shared via a link: no login ever required.

Assumptions & limitations

  • Euler–Bernoulli beam theory (plane sections remain plane; shear deformation neglected).
  • Linear-elastic, prismatic section over the whole beam (stepped sections are not yet supported).
  • 2D vertical bending only; no axial/torsional analysis.
  • Average shear stress V/A only; for local web shear checks use a code-based design tool.
  • Results are for analysis aid only; verify critical designs against applicable codes of practice.
